The Tri-County Master Gardener Training Program is more than a class—it’s your gateway to hands-on experience, expert knowledge, and a community of gardeners who grow and give back. Whether you want to diagnose plant problems, lead workshops, or become the go-to garden expert in your neighborhood, TCMGA gives you the tools and support to make it happen.

Application Dates

Application Opens: May 2025

Deadline: Mid-July

 Interviews: Held after submission closes

 Location: Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley County residents

We welcome anyone ready to learn, dig in, and give back through service.

Class Requirements

Attend weekly classes (1 excused absence)

Complete readings and coursework

Pass weekly quizzes and final exam (70%+)

Attend mandatory orientation in January

Join a mentor for an observation session

Trees, shrubs, annuals, and perennials

Clemson Extension-based science and practices

Course Fee: $300 (includes SCMG Manual)

What Happens
After Training?

Get your hands dirty and make a real difference.

Complete 40 hours of volunteer service
◦ Minimum of 21 hours in an MG office

Log 10 hours of continuing education annually

Log 20 hours of educational service annually

Support the TCMGA mission through outreach and education
