Located in Charleston at Clemson’s Coastal Research Center, the URDA Demonstration Gardens showcase native plants, heirloom roses, and sustainable practices. Maintained by Tri-County Master Gardeners, it’s a place to learn, volunteer, and grow — right here in the Lowcountry.

From Arboretum to Community Resource
Originally planted as an arboretum by USDA horticulturist Dr. Louis B. “Bernie” Boudreaux
Transitioned in 1975 to an open, educational garden maintained by Master Gardeners

More than plants — this is a place that grows people, too.
From school field trips and butterfly counts to early morning harvests and sunset rose pruning — the URDA Garden brings people together. What started as a few beds and a dream has become a living classroom, a hands-on sanctuary, and a community-rooted legacy, powered by passionate volunteers.
